Terms of Service
Please review these terms before using GroundCalculator. By accessing our site or using our 26 calculators, you agree to these conditions, estimating models, and advertising terms.
Summary of Key Conditions
- Estimates Only: All calculated weights, cubic yardages, tonnage figures, and bag counts are practical estimates. Natural bulk material weights vary with moisture, particle size, and compaction.
- 10% Safety Buffer: We always recommend ordering ~10% surplus material to account for grade irregularities, mechanical compaction, and end-of-run cutting waste.
- Free & Ad-Supported: Free access to all 26 tools is supported by third-party advertising networks (including Google AdSense). We do not endorse third-party advertised products or services.
- Engineering Plans Govern: For structural engineering, foundation footings, and municipal permits, always consult a licensed civil or structural engineer.
1. Acceptance of Terms
By accessing, browsing, or utilizing GroundCalculator (accessible at groundcalculator.com), you acknowledge that you have read, understood, and agree to be bound by these Terms of Service, along with our Privacy Policy.
If you do not agree with any part of these terms, please discontinue use of our website and calculation tools immediately.
2. Estimator Disclaimer & Field Material Limitations
Important Material Takeoff Notice
All calculations, bulk density conversions, cubic yard estimates, tonnage figures, and retail bag counts provided across GroundCalculator's 26 tools are practical estimates only.
Actual delivered bulk volumes and scale weights fluctuate substantially due to real-world factors beyond mathematical modeling:
Moisture Content
Heavy precipitation or high humidity can increase the weight of soil, compost, sand, and aggregate by 20% to 50% without changing bulk volume.
Gradation & Void Ratios
The distribution of fine particles versus coarse stone or bark chips significantly alters compaction density and volumetric yield.
Mechanical Compaction
Tamping, vibrating plate compactors, and vehicular traffic settle loose delivered materials by 10% to 25%.
Subgrade Irregularities
Undulating excavation, sloping base ground, and trench imperfections require additional material to maintain target finished grade.
3. Structural & Civil Engineering Advisory
GroundCalculator is designed for planning, material procurement estimates, DIY homeowners, and contractor takeoffs.
Licensed Professional Verification
You must never rely solely on GroundCalculator outputs for structural foundation loads, retaining walls exceeding standard safety heights (typically over 3–4 feet), seismic footing calculations, or binding commercial contracts without supplier certified scale weigh tickets and direct verification from a licensed structural or civil engineer.
4. Advertising, Google AdSense & Third-Party Content
GroundCalculator displays digital advertisements provided by third-party advertising networks, primarily Google AdSense (Google LLC), to maintain free public access to all 26 tools without subscription fees:
- Third-Party Advertisers: Advertisements appearing on GroundCalculator are served by external ad exchanges, networks, and automated demand platforms. We do not personally curate individual ads.
- No Endorsement: The appearance of an advertisement, banner, or promotional link on GroundCalculator does not constitute an endorsement, sponsorship, or recommendation of the advertised product, service, brand, or merchant by GroundCalculator.
- External Links & Transactions: When clicking on third-party links or advertisements, you leave GroundCalculator. We are not responsible for the privacy practices, content, billing, or fulfillment of external websites. Any purchases or contracts made through third-party advertisers are solely between you and the vendor.
- Ad Personalization: You can manage or opt out of personalized ad targeting at any time via Google My Ad Center or industry opt-out portals, as detailed in our Privacy Policy.
5. Acceptable Use & Anti-Fraud Policy
You agree to use GroundCalculator only for lawful estimating, educational, residential, and professional purposes. You specifically agree not to:
- Advertising Fraud: Generate invalid impressions, automated clicks, or artificial traffic on advertising units through bots, scripts, automated clickers, browser extensions, or deceptive incentives.
- Scraping & Harvesting: Use automated bots, scrapers, spiders, or extraction software to mass-harvest website content, calculation engines, or API routes in a manner that degrades service performance.
- Service Interference: Interfere with, disrupt, or launch denial-of-service (DDoS) attacks against website servers, edge routing, or connected networks.
- Unauthorized Framing: Frame, mirror, or wrap GroundCalculator tools within external web properties without explicit prior written authorization.
6. Intellectual Property & Third-Party Licenses

This limitation encompasses, without limitation, costs of surplus material purchases, material delivery shortages, contractor downtime, labor surcharges, delivery rescheduling fees, or structural discrepancies resulting from project calculations.
You agree to indemnify, defend, and hold harmless GroundCalculator and its operators from any claims, liabilities, damages, losses, or expenses (including reasonable legal fees) arising from your violation of these Terms of Service or misuse of the calculation tools.
9. Modifications to Terms & Services
We reserve the right to modify, amend, or update these Terms of Service at any time at our sole discretion. Any changes will become effective immediately upon posting to this page with an updated "Last Updated" date.
Your continued use of GroundCalculator after changes have been posted constitutes your binding acceptance of the updated terms.
